The main MTB ultramaraton of the Americas improved infrastructure was praised by competitors
Mucugê, Bahia, Brazil - For seven days, residents of Mucugê and Rio de Contas, in the beautiful Chapada Diamantina, witnessed special moments. With 500 riders from 23 countries, Brasil Ride 2015 was tagged a success by its protagonists and everyone who followed the action packed competition. The great finishing touch was the Brasil Ride Marathon, a one-day event for 600 more cyclists who couldn´t take part in the seven-day race. Next years Brasil Ride is already scheduled for October 16th - 22nd 2016.
Founder of Brasil Ride, Mario Roma highlighted his ultramarathon biggest quality: "Our main goal is to bring a completely safe competition to the athletes. We had an honest run, with anti-doping tests and safety for all our cyclists. The quality of the competition has increased just like the level of its athletes, without any serious accidents, or any course errors, which proves that we had a great event".
Roma was also satisfied with the positive feedback by the bikers. "The foreign athletes, who travel all over the world, had a jaw-dropping experience at Brasil Ride. UCI (International Cycling Union) officials said our score is 9.9, and the athletes are astounded by the quality of the basic services we provides, like race-track marking, food, structure, bathrooms and showers. Brazilians were surprised my the size of the event and foreigners were surprised by its quality".
UCI commissioner for the 2015 edition, Jim Crompton (USA) was present in the race for his second time. "We want to see the organization improving every year. From what I saw in 2015, compared to 2013 when I was here at Brasil Ride for the first time, the event is much better now. The organization has more people working during the course and the markings are better, in addition to having more support points. Mario Roma is raising the quality of this event. Based on my last time here, the organization has improved a lot. Brasil Ride standards are what I expect for a Class S1 event".
Points for 2016 Olympics - Brasil Ride’s three time champion and Atlanta-1996 Olympic Champion Bart Brentjens (NED) is already thinking about defending his trophy next year. He won the 2015 edition with Abraão Azevedo. "I'll be back again in 2016. Of course there is a lot to decide, but I will probably return. Brasil Ride is a great race, with great visibility. It's good for our sponsors for us to be here. It’s a very organized event, with many UCI points and in a great country "said Bart.
"Brasil Ride have raised Brazilian MTB level for the last 6 years. It is an extremely well organized event that bring together top athletes and amateurs in a great gathering for the sport. This year, the tournament was at a higher level, with highlights to track marking, support posts and path choices. The event has really grown a lot, " said Henrique Avancini, the best Brazilian in the UCI rankings and favorite in the run for the Brazilian MTB spot in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
Daniel Geismayr and Hermann Pernsteiner of Austria held the first place during half of the 600 km race, but left Brasil Ride after failing to complete the sixth stage. "It was our first time in the race and we were very surprised. Everything was very organized. The volunteers were friendly to us when we needed help, Shimano Neutral Support service was amazing. When we needed it, it was perfect. The organizational level is the highest, no doubt," said Hermann. "The track marking of the race was perfect. I ran various competitions this year and Brasil Ride was one of the best. We did about 300 km in first place and never had doubts about where we should go next. Very good indeed," agreed Daniel.
