Brasil Ride: Ferreira retains stage 2 hegemony alongside Becking and the duo is new leader in the GC

DMT Racing Team completed the longest stage of the ultramarathon - a 143-kilometer course - more than five minutes ahead of Kulhavy / Ulman and Avancini / Fumic teams

In the second stage of the tenth edition of Brasil Ride leaders swapped positions along the route, in the disputes of men and women elites. Despite starting on a rainy day in Porto Seguro (BA), the heat was predominant, especially in the region of Itabela and Guaratinga. Among men, DMT Racing Team Tiago Ferreira (POR) and Hans Becking (NLD), from DMT Racing Team, finished more than 5 minutes ahead of Specialized Racing's Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE) and Matous Ulman (CZE), and Cannodale Factory Racing XC’s Henrique Avancini (BRA) and Manuel Fumic (GER).

Ferreira and Becking, who were third after the prologue, completed the stage in 5:10:49. After their time on this stage, they now get the yellow shirt, with a 4min27 lead ahead of Avancini and Fumic, who finished in 5h16min26. “The stage was good, We do not have a predefined strategy, because anything can happen. We enjoyed every possible moment to gain time. If I'm not mistaken, on km 80, on the new climbs, we forced the pace and broke away. From then on, we gained time", said the Portuguese.

In addition to the win, Tiago Ferreira confirmed his hegemony in the stage, having won the dispute every time since Brasil Ride came to the extreme south of Bahia. "We did not make any plans for the next stages. Our only goal is to win. So we are going to try every day, and whatever it will be, will be. Let's not focus too much on one plan or another. This year the stage was quite different, very unique. It's good to have won the four stages between Arraial and Guaratinga", Ferreira added.

"At such a stage you have to wait and follow your instincts. The start was slow when the group was large and we knew the last part would be hard, meaning we should save as much energy as possible. Tiago started to force the pace and it is my job to follow him. I did my best until the end and we are happy with this result", celebrated Hans Becking.

Three-time champion of Brasil Ride, Avancini evaluated the stage. "We had a few more trails compared to the past years. They weren't so technical, but they pulled the average speed down a little. I would say it was the hottest stage of Brasil Ride I've ever ridden. The heat was surreal. The peloton had a more moderate pace up to km 50 and then the attacks began. We escaped with Hans and Tiago, but in the last part of the route we lost contact. We tried to chase them, but it was not possible, so Kulhavy and Ulman reached and we worked to minimize the distance to the winners. I suffered with the heat in the final 10 km and then we were lucky to be in the wheel of the two Czechs", evaluated Avancini.

Third stage - The third stage leaves Guaratinga and has a change in the landscape, compared with the shore. Plenty of rocks and dirt roads. Something quaint and different, running along the side of the large stones.  Single tracks, some of them in the middle of cocoa plantations, make the 35-km route quite entertaining.  The athletes will take two laps, riding through the camp on each lap and there will be two starts, one in the morning for the first 100 and the other in the early afternoon for the others. This way, amateur athletes can watch a professional dispute from the camp.
