Hans Becking and Jiri Novak retain their trophy in Brasil Ride

Among women, Brazilians Raiza Goulão and Viviane Favery win the competition, held in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil

Mucugê, Bahia, Brasil -
After 600 km, seven days and 13,000 meters of elevation gain, Brasil Ride 2015 sees their champions. Cyclists overcame steep climbs, insane downhills, and tricky singletracks. They rode on trails and pavement between the towns of Mucugê and Rio de Contas, in Chapara Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil, to complete the main MTB ultramarathon of the Americas. No one managed to ride faster than Dutchman Hans Becking and Czeck Jiri Novak. With the third place in the final stage and the time of 2h45min08, this Saturday they secured their second win in the open category. Among ladies, Brazilian duo Raiza Goulão and Viviane Favery lead the GC from the first day, and confirmed their win when they crossed the finish line in 3h40min56.

Brazilians Halysson Ferreira an Rafael ‘Catalan’ Mesquita once again stood out in the open category, winning the stage after 77 Km in 2h41min49. Daniel Grossi and Guilherme Saad climbed the podium for the first time in this edition, placing second with 2h45min06. Among women, Brazilian Isabella Lacerda and American Nina Baum crossed the line in first place for the second time in a row, in 3h19min39, and secured the win in the American Women category. Erika Gramiscelli and Jaqueline Candido were runners-up of the day, completing the track in 3h32min40.

The duo Becking/Novak received the trophy of the sixth edition of Brasil Ride, with an overall time of 26h34min04, opening a 45min38 gap ahead of the runners-up of 2015, Hugo Prado Neto and Lukas Kaufmann. "We wanted to survive the day without any risk. We managed to stay all the time on the front. It feels great. Last year was hard, because we were only three minutes ahead, now we had some more time difference. We’re really happy. We made it. I love the people, they appreciate us so much, having their respect is really great", said Becking. "Of course I’ll be back in 2016. Why not?", he added.

Back to back - Raiza Goulão and Viviane Favery lead Brasil Ride from the first stage. They completed the 77 Km of the final stage on Saturday without any risk, and conquered the win with a huge gap on the GC. The total gap over the runners-up Isabela Lacerda/Nina Baum was 3h20min25. A winning partnership between two Brazilian champions, one in XC, and the other in Marathon, which goal was the win, to help Raiza get 120 points of this race in international rankings.

A MTB legend on the podium - The 1995 XC world champion and Olympic gold medalist in Atlanta 1996, Bart Brentjens was one of the favorites, and confirmed the win with his partner Abraão Azevedo. It feels great to win. Brasil Ride is a long race, and one of the most difficult. Abraão was great this season, and we were very strong, always among the best in the open category. We worked hard for this, and I’m also happy for Hans and Jiri, two teammates of Superior-Brentjens Mountain Bike Racing Team", said Dutchman Bart.

End of kingship - German Simon Gegenheimer and Swiss Nathalie Schneitter broke a four-year streak in Brasil Ride. The duo took - from German Ivonne Kraft - the chance of winning the sixth title in a row. And the win was from the very beginning: Simon and Nathalie won the seven stages of the competition. "Brazil Ride was very hard. I have a super good team beside me during the competition. I’m very happy, but even happier for finishing", evaluated Nathalie. The good result with Simon granted the Swiss the best time among ladies.
