Debuting in the new category, the Greek Andreas Miltiadis opened 29 seconds of advantage in the leadership of the ultramarathon after the prologue. In the women's category, Estonian victory with Greete Steinburg. The first stage takes place on Tuesday (10) at 9 am in Castro Daire.
May, 2022 - Portugal Brasil Ride started this Monday afternoon (9) in Pinhão, a village that belongs to the municipality of Alijó. with the completion of the prologue of 22 km and 1100 m of accumulated altimetry.
Breaking the favoritism of the Portuguese Tiago Ferreira, the Greek Andreas Miltiadis, team partner, from DMT Racing By Marconi, took the lead and won the first day of competition, of the stage race in the new Solo UCI Men category. In the solo UCI Women, the victory went to the athlete from Estonia, Greete Steinburg, from MTB Pro Merchandising Racing.
Greek Andreas Miltiadis was the fourth athlete to line up for the start in the district of Pinhão on the banks of the Douro River, and recorded the best time in the prologue with 51m06. Hugo Drechou (Buff Megamo Team) was in second place with 29 seconds behind the champion of the day.
“Today I was very happy about the victory, I had been a little nervous the night before because I had some cramps, but now I have the yellow shirt and I will fight to keep it in the next few days”, celebrated Andreas.
Tiago Ferreira, who won the title of Portuguese marathon champion 2022 yesterday, was in third place, 57 seconds behind. “Yesterday the national competition was very tough, 100 kilometers and tremendous heat. I traveled right after winning the title to be here. I was happy that my teammate won that first day, but there is a long way to go as the days go by”, said Tiago
Among women Greete Steinburg opened a good lead in the first 22 km of dispute, crossing the finish line in 1h11min01s. The second place went to the German Naima Madlen (Buff Megamo Team) with 1h15min42s. Completing the podium of the day, the Portuguese Ana Tomás (BTT Seia).
The dispute continues in all categories, but the mixed category promises to be fierce between the couples. The Portuguese Jose Silva and Celina Carpinteiro won on the first day with a 6-minute lead. “We did a super controlled stage but I'm still feeling the competition from yesterday and that's when my partner helped me on the steepest climbs, putting me up, literally”, explained Celina. “It's great to compete in a Brasil Ride event, this one even more special here in Portugal. I strongly believe that this event will grow quickly and become a reference just as the brand is already in the world”, she concluded. Anna Jördens (ALE) and Jose Silva (ESP) from Doctore Bike were the runners-up. In third place, the Brazilians Andre Lima and Fabiana Brandão from 4Fun Bike Center.
