Austrians Daniel Geismayr and Hermann Pernsteneir won the longest stage and lead the Brasil Ride

Bikers from Austria have now 11 minutes advantage from Lukas Kaufmann and Hugo Prado Neto, second place in the Queen's Stage, in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia

Rio de Contas, Bahia - Brazil
-The intense heat of over 30 degrees was just one of the obstacles that Austrians Daniel Geismayr and Hermann Pernsteneir overcame early on Monday (19th) to win the longest stage of the sixth edition of Brasil Ride between Mucugê to Rio de Contas. They finished the 147 km route in 6 hours and 23 minutes, and now lead the overall of open category, in the main MTB ultramarathon of the Americas. The prologue winners the Swiss who lives in Belo Horizonte (BRA) Lukas Kaufmann and Hugo Prado Neto got the second place, and they are almost 12 minutes away from the leaders.

Daniel Geismayr confessed to feel the heat, but celebrated the success of their tactic pedaling strong from the start. "We started with a strong pace and decided to strike after km 25. We are very happy with the win. The heat was unbelievable. You need to moisturize all the time and in the end I had taken so much water that could not even drink more. It was really difficult and Vietnam is even hard because you can not be quickly and there are stretches where you have to push the bike. But all this worth the result," said the Austrian.

At home in Vietnam - Owners of orange jersey (ladies leader) after the prologue, Raiza Goulão and Viviane Favery achieved another victory in Brasil Ride and follow the lead. With a difference of 33 minutes to the second place, Anna Bella Stropparo and Elena Gaddoni, both from Italy, Raiza and Vivi went through different moments in the toughest stage of the ultramarathon. While Raiza completed without great suffering, Vivi went through a moment of exhausting fatigue.

In the run for a spot at the Olympics Rio 2016, Brasil Ride has its Olympic day - The Cross Country Olympic (XCO) will take place at Brasil Ride this Tuesday (20th). After biking 147km in the previous day between the towns of Mucugê and Rio de Contas in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, 500 bikers who are competing for the main MTB ultramarathon of the Americas will face four laps in a circuit f 7,7km. The challenge will be special for the select group of bikers who are in the run for a spot at the Olympics Rio 2016. Due to the competition similarities, this stage will be an excellent way to measure how are the main Brazilian athletes, less than a year away from the Olympics.

Henrique Avancini, Ricardo Pscheidt, Frederico Mariano, Sherman Trezza, Raiza Goulão, Isabella Lacerda and Erika Gramisceli are vying for the 120 points in the world rankings of the UCI (International Cycling Union), these points as essential in defining who will represent the country in the Olympics Rio 2016.

In the Open category, Avancini duo is the roockie Wolfgang Smith, Frederick Mariano bikes with Sherman Trezza and Richard Pscheidt is with Leandro Donizete. In the Ladies category, Raiza Goulão bikes with Viviane Favery, while Isabella Lacerda has as a partner the North American Nina Baum, champion in 2014 and Erika Gramiscelli is with Leticia Cândido.

Even being disputed in duos in all seven stages, cross country is the only category in which athletes can run separate, with the winners being defined by the average of the times of the two bikers. This fact allows each biker to define their pace, which should spice up the dispute between the Brazilians Olympics.

The competition - As a result of the second stage fret, the start will be on Tuesday at 10 am (11 am GMT). The top 60 of the previous day start ahead. Then at 11:30, the rest start biking. "This division prevents the slowest bikers hinder the performance of the fastest," explains Rafael Campos, Technical Director of Brasil Ride. "This is a short, but tough, stage. So the first athlete to cross the finish line after four laps, stops anyone else from starting a new lap. In this case, it has an increased time to set the final classification", he adds.

Structure and transport - The bikers vying for the Cross Country this Tuesday, will find a new structure in Rio de Contas. On Monday (19th), even before starting the race that begins in the City of Mucugê, at 6 am, part of the structure was moved from one city to another at dawn. "We have two arena structures 90% assembled in each of the municipalities, but we need to transfer small pieces, that are very delicate and require very close attention, such as the timers, athletes’ luggage, and the medical center, for example", explains Mauro Roma, founder of Brasil Ride.
