Brasil Ride offers record breaking Olympic points in the race for Rio 2016

Brasil Ride Press Release for immediate distribution

The greatest challenge of the Brazilian mountain biking calendar, Brasil Ride sixth edition promises to take, once again, emotion and adrenaline to maximum level at the Chapada Diamantina, Bahia. From October 17th to 24th, 500 of the world's best cyclists will face seven stages of the most prestigious MTB ultramarathon of the Americas. The challenge involves a total distance of 600 km and climbing 13,000 meters in altitude.

For the winning teams in the "Open" and "Women" categories, there will 120 UCI World Ranking points at stake. The number of points available is 50% bigger than last year's edition when Dutchman Hans Becking and Czech Jiri Novak, in the Open category, and Americans Sonya Looney and Nina Baum got 80 points each in the Cross-Country world rankings. It is also a record in Brasil Ride's history.

"All editions have been special and memorable for athletes, public and everyone responsible for the event. This year will be no different, because we are living the Olympic cycle. That makes it even more important. The Rio de Janeiro Olympics are around the corner. We have confirmed the presence of some of the best cyclists in the world. We will also have the honorable presence of Brazil's Sports Minister, George Hilton, his High Performance Secretary, Carlos Geraldo Santana de Oliveira, for the event. It is a milestone for Brazilian Mountain Bike, a proof of how our sport is growing in size and importance", says Mario Roma, founder of Brasil Ride.

More than 2,000 cyclists from 30 different countries challenged the trails in the heart of Chapada Diamantina, between the towns of Mucugê and Rio das Contas, for the past five editions. The participants always compete in duos. Brasil Ride 2016 will once again feature seven categories: Open, Women, Mixed, Master (for athletes over 40 years old), Grand Masters (over 50), Nellore (for athletes over 90 kg) and Corporate (for trios).

Attention: During the event, text, photos and videos will be available to all media daily. For media enquiries and image requests, please contact redacao@zdl.com.br or +55.11.98783 7408.
