Brasil Ride: Abraão Azevedo goes for his 7th title with Olympic Champion Bart Brentjens

Riders will have a new challenge in the Discovery Route and first time women champions Celina Carpinteiro (POR) and Ivonne Kraft (GER) are back in Bahia

Porto Seguro, Brazil - Brasil Ride’s 7th edition is here: from 15 to 22 of October, 1500 bikers will ride in the mountains of Bahia and celebrate the rich history of mountain biking. After six years in the Chapada Diamantina, the competition will move to the Discovery Route, using the cities of Arraial d'Ajuda and Guaratinga as stopovers. Abraão Azevedo (BRA), Brasil Ride’s biggest Champion, is running for a 7th trophy. He will ride for the 4th time with Atlanta-1996 Olympic Champion Bart Brentjens (NED).

Abraão was crowned Champion in the Masters category with four different partners: Plínio Souza (BRA), Paulo Freitas (BRA) and Paulo Borges (BRA, between 2010 and 2012, and MTB legend Bart Brentjensfrom 2013 to 2016. "The new route makes the competition more exciting. Is like riding for the first time in Brasil Ride. My six titles mean nothing right now. The goal is enjoying each stage and have e great week with Bart. We learn something new every day".

Old partners - In 2010, Celina Carpinteiro (POR) and Ivonne Kraft (GER) formed the winning pair for the first women edition. After fiveeditions, the duo is together again. With Mateus Ferraz (BRA), Ivonne won four titles in the mixed competition, from 2011 to 2014. Celina only competed inBahia two years ago, with Isabel Caetano (BRA).

"The truth is that I’m motivated and in top physical shape. Partnering with my friend Ivonne in this new beginning for Brasil Ride is special. We met in the first edition and that was the year that I won my only title", Celina says. "Brasil Ride is the toughest stage race I have ever raced. Riders have to deal with personal achievements and knowing what are your physical and psychological limitations".
