MTB champions defy the trails of Chapada Diamantina in Brasil Ride

18 countries will be represented in the sixth edition of the main MTB ultramarathon of the Americas, between October 17th to 24th, in Bahia

São Paulo, Brazil
- International power will once again test Brazilian endurance during Brasil Ride, between October 17th to 24th. Among the 500 athletes that signed up for the main MTB ultramarathon of the Americas, 65 competitors come from 18 different countries - 12 of them from Europe: Austria, Belgium, Slovenia, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland. South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, United States and Uruguay complete the list.

1995 Cross Country World Champion and Atlanta-1996 olympic gold medallist Bart Brentjens (NED) is at the top of the list of European in the competition. In the Open category, Hans Becking (NED) and Jiri Novak (TCH) will give their best to win the Brasil Ride championship again. Duos as Luís Leão Pinto (POR) and Matthias Leisling (GER), Daniel Geismayr and Hermann Pernsteiner (both from Austria), Simon Gegenheimer and Steffem Thum, and Christopher Maletz and Daniel Gathof (from Germany) and Stijn Van Boxstael and Jorgen Flion (from Belgium), also promise to make things very difficult for their opponents.

Defending champion alongside Hans Becking, Czech Jiri Novak counts on his training to win another title. "It's very hard for me to cycle in such a tough race like Brasil Ride after an entire season. But I train daily and the idea of winning again this year is a great motivation. The phrase 'More than a competition, a stage in your life ' explains well the meaning behind this event. It will be my third appearance, but it is such a difficult race, I don’t know if I will be able to complete it again" said Novak.

Austrian Hermann Pernsteiner faces this challenge for the first time. "It will be my debut in Brasil Ride and also in South America. I’ve been talking to cyclists lately and they told me this competition is very difficult. That's what makes me even more excited," says Hermann - he will pair up with Daniel Geismayr. "We're in good shape. We showed that in recent tests here in Europe. Certainly there are several strong teams and a lot can happen during a competition that lasts for days, but our goal is to finish on the podium after the seven days", he says.

Fierce competition in the female field - Among women, Italians Annabella Stropparo and Elena Gaddoni are the favorites to take the title from defending champion Nina Baum (USA), that will compete alongside Brazilian Isabella Lacerda. Brazilian MTB champion in 2014, Isabela's objective is to use Brasil Ride to get points for the Olympic ranking - there will be 120 points to the champions. Her main rival for the spot is Raiza Goulão, who will compete with Viviane Favery.

Always raced in duos, Brasil Ride will once again feature seven categories: Open, Women, Mixed, Master (no athlete under 40 years can participate), Grand Masters (no athlete under 50 years is allowed in this category), Nellore (the athlete needs to weight more than 90 kg) and Corporate (three members category). In addition, we will also offer the special cycling Jersey for the American Continent's best teams of both, men and women.

So far, 18 countries will be represented in the 2015 race: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Uruguay and USA.
