Marcella Toldi and Henrique Avancini have their hands on the title

Brazilian athletes guarantee another podium; Santander Brasil Ride Bahia 2023 registrations are now open

October 2022 - The fifth stage of the Santander Brasil Ride Bahia - the return from Guaratinga to Arraial D'Ajuda, in Porto Seguro, had Henrique Avancini and Marcella Toldi wins once again. Only mechanical or physical problems can keep them from winning the race.

Marcella Toldi - Johny Lin / Ciclovia Rio Pinheiros arrived at the Santander Brasil Ride Bahia Arena in Arraial d'Ajuda, after 5h50m48s of competition - 19 minutes before the runner-up Spanish Anna Jördens (6h10m12s) - Doctore Bike and with a difference of 24 minutes from the German Naima Diesner (6h15m28s) - Brasil Ride. Marcella opened a gap of 1h09m30s over her opponents. "Even with the advantage, I didn't arrive at the ultramarathon thinking about the podium, but about evolving and improving from last year. I still think this way. I want to do a better stage than last year, I want to have fun and flow on the trails, and if it works out it will be a consequence", she explained.

For the white shirt of the female elite, being the champion of this stage - being the last to be held at Brasil Ride - has a nostalgic tone. "It was exciting and I kept thinking about it during the race. Despite saying that I would ride more relaxed, I decided to risk everything and test my body's, controlling and making a fast stage. I wanted to beat my PR on this return to Guaratinga, and I was very happy to participate in this last edition. It's a very special challenge," she said.

Dispute - The men's elite dispute was fierce, but Henrique Avancini won another stage with a two minute-gap ahead of Gustavo Xavier (4h51m09s) - Specialized Racing BR and three minutes from the Portuguese Tiago Ferreira (4h52m36) - DMT Racing Team by Marconi. Edson Rezende (4h52m38s) - Caloi Henrique Avancini Racing and Sherman Trezza (4h52m39s) - 4Fun Bike Center Taubaté crossed the finish line in Arraial d'Ajuda, seconds later. Like Marcella, Avancini is almost eight minutes ahead of the competition.

"It was a good win, I controlled well from the beginning, responding to attacks leading the peloton at times.  At km 50, we accelerated and worked well together.  In the 4th feed zone, Gustavo (Xavier) attacked and made a mess, but I won. The housing is old, but the engine is still good! I almost regret having suggested removing these stages for next year", he celebrated.

Gustavo Xavier was the first runner-up, and told us about the fight with Avancini. "At km 70, I attacked Avancini and with 40 Km to the end, he caught up with me. The front wind got in the way and in the last 10 km, I honestly thought about stopping, I felt bad, my vision blurred and Avancini managed to open a gap. From then on, my mission was to finish the stage, and I was first runner-up.

Registration - The registrations for Santander Brasil Ride Bahia are open for next year, starting this Thursday, the 27th. More information about registration, stages and race can be accessed on the Brasil Ride website.

The stage back to the district of Arraial d'Ajuda had many surprises and forfeits. There were 135 km and 2,200 m of climbing until arriving at the Uíki arena. The stage to Guaratinga had mud, trails and slippery sections. On the way back, dry and hot weather dominated the entire race and the scorching sun punished many athletes.

Upon arrival, the crystal and warm waters of the ocean called the athletes for a swim at the Parracho beach. Others took the opportunity to hug and see their families again.

Closing - Tomorrow (29) - the last stage of the ultramarathon - starts at 9:30 a.m. The course has 39.6 km and 465 meters of climbing. The official results of the stage and the GC take place at 7 p.m. and the awards ceremony at 8:30 p.m.

Parallel to the ultramarathon, the last day has the participation of cycling amateurs in the Discovery Marathon. The line-up starts at 8 a.m., with one start at 9:40 a.m. and the tour starts at 10 a.m. The route will be approximately 25km. And to crown the 2022 season, the closing party, which will feature Bhaskar's show at Uíki, starting at 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
