Brazilian dominance in the second stage of Brasil Ride Bahia 2022

Henrique Avancini and Marcella Toldi are the solo category winners of the second stage; the athlete of the women's team arrived with a six-minute advantage ahead of the runner-up.

October 25th 2022 – The race was exciting for the elite men.  Henrique Avancini – Cannondale Factory Racing (2:15:42), Gustavo Xavier – Specialized Racing BR (2:15:43) and Hans Becking – Buff Megamo Team (2:15:44), crossed the finish line within seconds.

Avancini won his second stage in the ultramarathon and said that after a few years, his biggest challenge is to endure a stage race.  "For now I'm in good physical shape and I felt pretty confident and in control throughout the race.  The course was hard, lots of climbs, extremely wet and heavy trails, it was challenging. Despite the win, I have great opponents, and any advantage I can have now is good", he revealed.

The course had 57.2 km and 711m of accumulated climbing and, despite not being very technical, the stage had several downhill and singletrack sections. The route crossed the Atlantic Forest of the Discovery Coast, on roots, foliage, mud and slippery sections demanded caution from the participants and some crashes were inevitable.

Six minutes – For the Brazilian Marcella Toldi - Johnny Lin / Ciclovia Rio Pinheiros (2h48m32s) it was the day to catch up from the fourth place of the Prologue, moving to the first place in the GC, with a difference of 6 minutes (2h42m31s), ahead of Anna Jördens (ESP) - Doctore Bike 2 (2h48m32s) and almost 13 minutes ahead of Naima Diesner (GER) - Brasil Ride (2h55m21) in this stage.

Marcella Toldi explained that her goal was ride with the girls, but the planning has changed. The athlete had mechanical problems that did not prevent her from being the leader in her category.

"I opened a gap after the start, and when I got to the first singletrack I broke a wheel spoke. At that point I didn't see the girls anymore and went all or nothing. Anna (Jördens) accompanied me for a while, but she couldn't climb with me, so I kept my pace, to guarantee the position, because you don't know about tomorrow. On one of the climbs a guy fell in front of me, knocked me down and my gear broke. The last 10 km were pure desperation, looking back and shifting gears with my hand. I did all I could, and it was wonderful”.

Guaratinga - In October 26th, the stage starts at the Uiki, in Arraial d'Ajuda, at 7:30 a.m., and goes on to Guaratinga. The 128-km track with 2,660 meters of climbing is one of the largest stages in this ultramarathon, and in the world. Due to the cancellation of yesterday's stage, the schedule will be subject to change.
