Brasil Ride Bahia's first solo start had a Brazilian podium

The Prologue - first stage of the ultramarathon crowned Henrique Avancini and Paula Gallan as the fastest riders; Gustavo Xavier and Anna Jördens as runner-ups; and Hans Becking and Naima Diesner in third place

October 2022 - The Prologue, the first stage of the Brasil Ride Bahia 2022 ultramarathon, had Brazilians on the podium.  For the solo start, stage 1 followed the UCI ranking for the start order. Thus, known athletes, such as the Brazilians Henrique Avancini - Cannondale Factory Racing, Alex Malacarne - Specialized Brasil - Trinity Racing, Gustavo Xavier - Specialized Racing BR, Edson Rezende - Caloi Henrique Avancini Racing, Sherman Trezza - 4Fun Bike Center/ Taubaté and the Portuguese Tiago Ferreira - DMT Racig Team By Marconi and Filipe Francisco - DMT Racig Team By Marconi 3 mingled with the other champions. In the women’s elite, the first three athletes to cross the finish line were Naima Diesner - Brasil Ride, Marcella Toldi - Johny Lin / Ciclovia Rio Pinheiros and Paula Gallan - Trinx Brasil Racing, all Brasil Ride veterans.

The first three men to start were Andreas Seewald - Canyon Northwave MTB Team; Hans Becking - Buff Megamo Team and Lubomir Petrus - D2mont Merida, but the experience on the Bahian terrain made a difference in the final classification, with Henrique Avancini (46m48s), Gustavo Xavier (47m16s) and Hans Becking (47m32s) and women Paula Gallan (1h01m40s), Anna Jördens - Doctore Bike 2 (1h02m19s) and Naima Diesner (1h03m11s).

Leader - Avancini was the 22nd rider to start, and was the fastest rider. "I'm very happy to win the podium on this first day, it brings a great dose of motivation to everyone on my team.

We have a very challenging week ahead, especially considering that my last ultramarathon was in October 2019, and I have motivation and drive on my side.  Brasil Ride is a very special event and despite not being one of the favorites, like Andreas Seewald, Tiago Ferreira and Hans Becking, I am confident", he said.

For Paula Gallan, coming first in the Prologue is promising.  "I did my best to finish first and I'm very happy. The race was challenging and I kept an insane pace from start to finish. Tomorrow I will try to follow the rhythm with the girls and not wear myself out so much.  I believe that all athletes are looking forward to this new solo format, to know how it will work over the days. It will be a different and unique experience", said Paula, who was the fourth to start, and secured the leader's shirt.

Crowd - The Prologue this Sunday (23) was very sunny, with temperatures reaching 34ºC and a sensation of 42ºC in some points of the 21.6 km trail. At the most famous and awaited point by the public - the church stairs, people crowded to see the athletes passing by. Julio Pinto from São Paulo was there and said that his supports Henrique Avancini. "I came here to see Avancini and the Portuguese Tiago Pereira, but my support is for Avancini", he revealed.

The resident of Arraial d'Ajuda, Kailane Bremer, 19 years old, came to cheer for her friend Igor Lopes and noticed ther movement that the race brings to the district. "My family has a guesthouse, and whenever there is an event, the city fills up, which is good for the population. It’s the beginning of summer season, and a lot of people take the opportunity to go on vacation and see Brasil Ride".

Fernando Borges, from the district of Trancoso, was also excited with the cycling idols and said that the crowd is cheering for Avancini in 2022. "I always come to see the stairs. Unfortunately, I will not participate in the Discoveriy Marathon this year," he said.

On site, Odonto Company - a national franchise and one of the local supporters of Brasil Ride, helped to relieve the heat of spectators, with the distribution of mineral water.  "We were invited to participate in events related to sport and nothing more natural than doing this at Brasil Ride", commented the manager of the Porto Seguro and Arraial units, Adriana dos Reis Leal. The Doutores da Alegria were also present, raising awareness of those who took the opportunity to refresh themselves in the place, recycling bottles and caps, which will be transformed into garbage bins.
