Brasil Ride celebrates the champions of the eighth edition, the most exciting ever

The open category had five different winners in seven stages. On the last race, two duos were fighting for the podium with a mere 21-second gap

Porto Seguro, Bahia - The eight edition of Brasil Ride, the main MTB marathon of the Americas, ended last Saturday (21) as the most balanced ever, and crowned the champions of the seven categories: open, ladies, master, grand master, mixed, nelore, and corporate. And two extra special jerseys for the best male and female duos in the American continent. And if the 500 participants of the seven-day event lived a stage in their lives, the decision day took another 1,000 riders to the streets and trails of the Porto Seguro region, and they could also celebrate cycling, and get a taste of what is competing with the best mountain bikers in the world.

In the main category Brazilian Henrique Avancini and Czech Jiri Novak rode beautifully, in a dispute that was only defined in the final kilometers of the stage. They got to the seventh just 21 seconds ahead of Italians Michele Casagrande and Fabian Rabensteiner, champions in 2016. Fourth place in the Australian World Championship last September, Avancini confirmed he is in his nest phase, and Novak chose Brasil Ride to finish his winning career.

Master category had a historical result. Bart Brentjens (NED) and Abraão Azevedo (BRA) won for the fifht time, but lost their stage invincibility in a five-year history. They were defeated by the Czechs Ondrej Fotjik and Robert Novotny, twice champion in the open category, in 2010/2011. Another interesting dispute was in the mixed category, with Americans Sonya Looney and Gordon Wadsworth defeating Portuguese Celina Carpinteiro and Valerio Ferreira.

On ladies, Raiza Goulão (BRA) and Margot Moschetti (FRA) were unbeatable. On the grand master category, the title went to Argentinian Pablo Rodriguez and Slovak Peter Vesel. On the nelore category, Reginaldo Moreira and Robson Mendes Magalhães triumphed in the over 90 kg category, while the corporate was won by the trio Andre/Wagner/Rodrigo. Mario Verissimo e Kennedi Sampaio, along with Ana Luisa Panini and Pilar Covalan received the title of best men and women of the Americas.

“This year's Brasil Ride showed it is not only a great challenge for all riders, but also a high-level competition. All categories were marked by excitement and tight disputes. On the open category, five different duos won the seven stages, in historical days. Teams Trek Selle San Marco and Avancini/Novak competed for the title in a perfect script for a movie. “This doesn't happen in races abroad”, assessed Mario Roma, creator of Brasil Ride.

“Nowadays, winning a Brasil Ride stage is a great achievement. Being a champion is exactly what Jiri Novak declared: is an honor for the career. He brought his career to a perfect end here .The summit. When a professional athlete such as Novak, who disputed dozens of marathons and stage races all over the world, declares something like this, it shows that the main MTB ultramarathon reached the top”, completed Roma.
